On Tuesday I had a 64Cu DOTATATE PET scan. This is only my second time having this particular scan, and last time in 2022 it revealed that my cancer had metastasized in a big way, which completely blindsided me. This time around I am much more mentally prepared to hear “bad news”: I belong to two support groups, I go to therapy every other week, and now I know I’m strong-willed and tough enough to heal after a brutal surgery!
It is indeed “bad news”. My disease has progressed in spite of my monthly Lanreotide shots. Numerous tumors can be seen in my liver, lymph nodes, spleen, abdominal cavity, and right breast.
I met with my oncologist today to discuss options. He is going to take my case to the OHSU Tumor Board next week to consult with others in his department about the best course of treatment; it will probably include PRRT (Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy, a second-tier option used if surgery doesn’t halt disease progression) and more surgery. I was half expecting something like this, based on the way my body has been feeling this year. I will write another update soon!
